Save Stafford Hospital

Laura my daughter in law supporting Stafford Hospital

What an amazing turnout for save Stafford Hospital, around 30,000 people turned out to show their support to keep the Hospital open. We were there, along with friends and family. It was reported on ITV and BBC news, and over 30, 000 people were reported to have taken part in a march of solidarity to keep the Hospital open.
These photos were taken on the Weston road where Mary, Jenny and I walked with the rest of the crowd, Martin and Laura had walked from the Town centre.
Just turning in past Age concern and on their way to the field where marquees had been put up for the event where petitions to keep the Hospital open were available for those who had not already signed to do so.
So many people and groups marching
Although we know peoples personal and awful tragedies have occurred , never to be forgotten nor should they ever be, may the hospital go forward now from strength to strength, learning from the past and improving in the future. We are a county town with a rising population, with a University, an MOD site with more army personnel and their families moving to Stafford, we need a Hospital for our Town and surrounding district. How many more people are likely to die waiting for an ambulance to take them to Burton on Trent, Wolverhampton, Newcastle. or Stoke, or turned away because Aand E closes at 10 0 clock at night.Other Hospitals in the county are already overloaded, how will they cope if they have to treat Staffords population as well.
People were voting with their feet!!

There are no easy answers, but my little grandson was born in the maternity unit two weeks ago, born premature and treated in the special baby care unit, praise indeed for the good nursing and midwifery care for both my daughter and grandson. Without this unit which most certainly would close if Stafford Hospital was downgraded, what a turmoil we would have been in. A sudden and unexpected labour without question can be a dangerous thing for both mother and baby. The special baby care unit we have is excellent and our grandson Nicholas got extremely good care.

Here he is in scbu

How we worried, but he was in very safe hands.Soon he was well enough to go home from the jaundice he had.So tiny but yet so perfect.

Some of the front line staff from all departments In Stafford hospital were cheered on by the crowd.
Here is the crowd and the frontline staff up on the stage all making their voices heard.
All we can now do is hope the views of the people of Stafford will be heard in Westminster and the Save our Hospital campaign will be successful.
